Students’ Difficulties in Reducing Adjective Clauses into Participial Phrases

Clause and phrase construction is one of the essential components needs to be mastered by English students in order support their writing. However, this problem that still encounter. The purposes study are figure out students’ difficulties causes reducing adjective clauses into participial phrases. 30 were selected using cluster random sampling technique from a population 162 second-year Department at Universitas Negeri Padang. Data gained questionnaire analyzed quantitative approach descriptive method. findings demonstrate understanding (68.8%), pronouns (64.6%), constructing verbs (62.8%) three aspects found most problematic. In addition, relative bit challenging for them (46.6%). It was also these significantly influenced instructional method utilized (80%), motivation (66.3%), educational background (65.8%), learning strategies (63.1%). Indeed, family environment (54.6%) has fair impact on it as well.
